Save Our Streams ! The New River Valley Save Our Streams (SOS) program began in 1992 when a small group of individuals took an introductory volunteer stream monitoring class through the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA). Over the past three years, several momitors have adopted 50 locations on 30 different streams in the New River Valley. The Museum of Natural History at Virginia Tech serves as regional coordinator in southwest Virginia for SOS programs, monitoring, and data. If you are interested in learning to monitor water quality in you area, or if you would like to adopt a stream, please contact Llyn Sharp, Museum of Natural History at Virginia Tech, (540) 231-3001.
